THERMENREGION, AUSTRIA - WHITE - GRUNER VELTLINER
Whereas much of Austria’s Grüner Veltliner is planted in soils of loess, Stadlmann’s grows in the limestone that characterizes their sector of the Thermenregion, resulting in an elegantly chalky, salty wine less opulent than many versions grown elsewhere. These wines are lithe, mineral, transparent and marked with the thumbprint of limestone. This is unique because much of Austria's Gruner is planted on loess-rich soil, to a somewhat different effect. You will see. This style of Gruner is incredibly useful for me personally and is the perfect white for green veggies, bitter salads and lake fish.
